Earrpix earrings are
light. How light? They are so light that you’ll be checking to see if you’ve
remembered to put them on. When we find a scale that calibrates to the fractions
of an ounce that can measure the weight of one Earrpix earring we will provide
a weight.
While at one time in
the 1970s and 1980s there may have been significance as to which ear a man
wore an earring with respect to his sexual preference, the common consensus
today is that there is no significance, particularly as an increasing number
of men follow the practice of most women of sporting one or more piercings
in both ears.
The wearing of earrings
by sailors pre-dates the above discussion on the significance of ear choice.
That said, according to Wikipedia (www.wikipedia.com,
“Earring”), a pierced earlobe signified that the wearer had sailed around
the world or crossed the equator. Also, it was commonly held that sailors
wore a gold earring as payment for a proper burial should they drown at
sea and the body be washed ashore.

The
EARSTUD is the
piece that allows The Dangle (the hangy-down piece also known as the
parts below the EARSTUD) to dangle from the ear. The EARSTUD
consists of a straight rod that is inserted through the piercing
hole with a Ball Post
end piece that is visible on the outside of the ear that will not detract from the Dangle. Also included
is a matching EARNUT that fits over the EARSTUD rod, keeping the Ball
Post firmly pressed to the ear.
The DANGLE is the sum of all parts connected to the EARSTUD. Everything
below this point (including the pick) is collectively known as
THE DANGLE.
The TOP BEAD is the larger bead
immediately below the EARSTUD. A large variety of
high quality multi-faceted fire- or high-polished glass Top Beads are
used to craft Earrpix Earring (Swarovski crystals are used as noted).
Top Beads are either round or bicone shaped. They can be single color,
dual-color (a single-color bead with an offsetting second-color finish)
and can also have an AB finish. Beads with an “AB” designation
have a transparent coating that can reflect a multitude (or rainbow)
of hues when caught just so in light. All Top Beads are have been carefully
matched to the guitar pick after sometimes months of combo trials, mostly
consisting of the bothering of friends for opinions and careful attention
paid to unsolicited comments received on the street.
The RONDELLE is the smaller accent bead that sits below
the TOP BEAD. Complementary in color to both the TOP BEAD and the pick,
it can also transition the feel of the earring. Seasonally available
earrings may appear very similar to those offered year around, differing
only in the color of the rondelle (particularly around Christmas and
Valentine’s Day the only time of year when Red rondelles are used).
A WIRE matching the silver- or gold-plated Ball Post is twisted
in such a way to fit through the TOP BEAD and RONDELLE and form a connector
between the guitar pick/swirl element to the bottom of the
EARSTUD
The SWIRL is a ‘signature’ of most Earrpix Guitar Pick Earrings. Placed at the bottom of the pick, it was originally added to the design for weight, keeping the pick from flopping around even in a slight breeze. But, when we realized the degree of style the Swirl added, it became not only needed heft but Earrpix’s ‘signature’, an immediate tell differentiating Earrpix from other earrings merely having a guitar pick attached to earwires or posts.
